31 days: brave

So many times the trials we endure in life are preparation for the work God has for us in life, which will eventually bring glory to Christ through it all. The path we take may seem more like a mountain climb than a Sunday stroll, but it will bring learning and meaning to our lives. And hopefully, if we are open to it and willing, God will use that very path to speak truth and love to another.

I didn’t understand why, at 22, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, or why I left an amazing relationship with the man who would eventually become my life partner for an abusive one, or why my mom had to battle cancer, or … You name it and there’s been a question. We often won’t understand for many years later, but when God uses you to bless another through your life experience, it’s amazing and beautiful.

Lately I’ve had just that, the amazing and beautiful, the heartache and empathy for another. right now I have a friend battling what this friend considers an impossible mountain right now, but this friend will emerge from this refining process stronger, happier, with renewed joy and feeling closer to Jesus. I am blessed that this friend has confided in me during this time.

Friend, these words are for you…

Brave
by Sarah Bareilles

You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a  drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of  love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do
And they settle ‘neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no  sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
Say what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna  see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna  see you
I wanna see you be brave

Everybody’s been there, everybody’s been stared down
By the  enemy
Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing
Bow down to the  mighty
Don’t run, stop holding your tongue
Maybe there’s a way out of the  cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show  me how big your brave is

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
Say what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

And since your history of silence
Won’t do you any good
Did you think it would?
Let your words be anything but empty
Why don’t you  tell them the truth?

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

Say what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna  see you
I wanna see you be brave
