women’s shelter thanksgiving souper

Many moons ago my family started attending the Women’s Shelter Thanksgiving Souper the Thursday before Thanksgiving at Eastminster Presbyterian. When we started attending the church served chicken noodle soup and that’s literally about all the event included. Now the event, this year celebrating 31 years, has grown and Chick Fil A is a major sponsor, providing the soup/meal and the General Managers to help run the operation. They even give away free sandwich coupons and sell the next year’s calendars for $5 each with all proceeds going to the Women’s Shelter!

I knew I’ve always liked Chick Fil A.

Well, as you’ll read in this article, the Thanksgiving Souper is about to take a change this year. A few years back I encouraged my Thursday Night Women’s Bible Study group to forego our lesson for that week and gather at the Souper to suppport the Women’s Shelter. We also encourage them to bring the whole family to make it a fun, eye-opening event. It’s been a big hit over the years…so much so that New Kirk is going to be a satellite host for the Thanksgiving Souper starting this year!!

I’m so excited about this, and I’m so proud of my dad for coming up with the idea and then proposing it to New Kirk’s leadership and the Women’s Shelter. I pray that this will be a huge event for our community to gather together and support the Women’s Shelter. It’s going to be a great night, and I’m excited to be a part of it.

So, mark your calendars now…bring the whole family. We’ll see you at New Kirk this year for the 2010 Thanksgiving Souper!
