So, I figured that since my church is a major sponsor for the upcoming Flamingo 5K in Blythewood, SC on October
23rd, I might want to get myself into “5K shape.” I started doing the Couch to 5K program (the iPod app is incredible, by the way!) and completed 2 whole days of the workout. Sadly, when I finished my run on Tuesday night I was in a lot of foot pain.
Mason convinced me that it’s normal given that I’m not a runner by any stretch of the imagination, but when I woke up for
work on Wednesday my heels still hurt. So, I tweeted asking my running friends for help and got a message back: “I hate to suggest this but look up plantar faciitis.” I was disheartened but sucked it up and responded “now I know why swimming is the safer option for me.”
I followed Leslie’s advice and did some research. Needless to say, I’m pretty convinced that I do in fact have plantar faciitis.
Sniff. I’m really upset about this because I really wanted to try and run my first 5K during the Flamingo 5K next month. I’m following online treatment suggestions and if I’m not any better on Monday, I’ll make plans to head to the doctor and get it all checked out.
Guess I just pushed myself too hard from the get-go.
